bike crashes and broken bones
that about sums up our day today! so heres the story...
garrett left to ride his bike to work at about 11:15. i had to be to work at 1 so i was still home getting ready...about 11:30 he calls but i didnt answer-so i call back and he doesnt answer...then he sends a text "can you come pick me up". this isnt the first time and i figure, "oh, hes got a flat tire", so unconcerned i reply, "what happened". he says he fell hard and i ask if hes ok. then he calls and says that hes bleeding a lot and that theres something wrong with his shoulder...then says "we need to go to the hospital". so i freak out and try to rush out of the house, but end up having to run back in like 3 or 4 times before i actually get on the road to get him. i find him on the bike path and throw his bike in the back of the truck, grab his backpack, toss that in, and put his seatbelt on him....he said that he was coming up on a guy walking his dog and yelled out that he was going to pass him on his left..the guy moves over, but his dog runs in front of garrett...garrett tries to avoid the dog, but hits him and flies over the handlebars of his bike, smacks his head and cuts it open (just a small cut)...gets road rash on his right arm, side, and legs. so we go home to drop off the bike and get the insurance cards and ask where the hospital is -youd think after 7 months living here we'd know where the hospital is, but we didnt. so we make the trek to the hospital...all the while thinking it was just dislocated. he said it didnt hurt that bad so he didnt think it was broken....
luckily, there was nobody waiting in the ER. he waited about 10 mintues then took him back. the doctor who first looked at him, felt the collar bone and said, "its broken right in half". the x-rays then confirmed that in fact it was broken. the nurses wouldnt let me go back with him so i had to wait for 2 hours in the waiting room not really knowing what was going on.....anyways, he comes out with a figure-8 sling and an arm sling. he has to wear them for about a month. we have a doctors appointment with an orthopedic doctor at 9am on friday just for a follow-up...
garrett is pretty bummed that he cant run in the 10k on saturday in yucaipa. he also is not able to run or bike for the next 4 to 6 weeks. this definitely sets back his training for the Big Kahuna triathalon in October, but he'll catch up...now he needs to focus on relaxing!!!!
hopefully, he will let me help him more. hes very independent and does not like that he cant do much of anything since his right collar bone is broken. also, next week is the last week of school for him. all of his projects are due...i cant really do much for him there-i cant draw! i draw like a 4 year old (there are probably 4 year olds that draw better than i do). hopefully his teachers will be understanding. my teachers were great about me missing the first day of class tonight.
i'll post the picture of him in his slings later on....time to give him his pain medication and figure out how and where he is going to sleep....
prayers, good thoughts, energy, vibes, whatever you do, please send them our way for garretts healing and recovery!!!!!!!

work is slowing down.....we are out of funding in both counties (san bernardino and riverside) so im losing my caseload until July 1st.

Garrett's 26th Birthday
I know its a day early, but oh well. My wonderful husband is 26th (on the 14th). Happy birthday my love. You are the MOST amazing husband I could ever ask for. You put up with SO much from me and support me in everything that I do, no matter what. I cant imagine my life without you! I hope you have a great birthday! I love you!
I think that means he likes it!
Blowing out his candles!
Aww! I love him!
the story behind the shirt! we were looking through a TON of pictures on Easter from when Garrett and his brother were very little (and some of Janae too)! And in a lot of the pictures, Garrett was wearing a Superman shirt. It was his FAVORITE shirt when he was little. So, I couldnt resist buying him a new Superman shirt!
Happy Birthday Garrett!
Easter!
We had a lovely Easter! Garret, unfortunately, had to work in the morning, so I headed off to church and then went to pick him up. After he got off work, we headed to his folks' for dinner. After we ate, Marjorie had an Easter egg hunt. This was MUCH more successfull than last year's egg hunt! Then it was dessert for Garrett's Birthday! It was a beautiful day and full of the Spirit! Here are some pictures!

Marjorie decided it was more fun to dump the eggs out of the basket!

Me and Garrett

Time to play on the swings!

Collecting eggs again!
Hope you had a great Easter!

Sunday and Such
Today was a nice Sunday. Garrett's parents came out to go to church with us. So we got up early and had our traditional Sunday morning pancakes and got ready to go. Sacrament was very uplifting! We got to enjoy to farewell talks of two Elders leaving for the MTC this week. Both young men are converts to the church, and the only members in their families. What faith and spirit those two Elders have. It was a blessing to listen to them bare their sincere testimonies. We left church after the long sacrament meeting and enjoyed sandwiches and brownies at home and watched "An Unlikely Mormon". Its the story of the conversion of Glenn Beck. Also, very inspirational. Again, a lot I can relate to, being a convert and the only member in my family-as he is. All in all, it was a spiritually uplifting day. Just what I needed.
And some "sad news"...after a few anxious days, we learned we are not expecting a baby...so we keep thanking Heavenly Father for the many blessings we already have and sincerely pray that He sees that we are blessed with a baby in His time-which I hope is on our timeline also! We ask for continued prayers!
Saturday was also a GREAT day! We got to see some friends which is always nice. And I got to volunteer at a great event! Catholic Charities-the agency I work for-put on a free even for the community that provided help with utility bills, legal advice, free food, and lots of other services. I was able to help out all day at the welcome table, passing out everything to people as they came in. It was nice to give back and made me that much more thankful for all of my many blessings.

On the bandwagon
I decided to jump on the blogging bandwagon. I have been reading the blogs of friends from college for a while. I didnt really think we have anything to write about, but Im sure things will come up.
Garrett and I just celebrated our 2 year wedding anniversary in November and are trying to have a baby. He is a student (a senior) at Cal State Fullerton, getting a BFA in Entertainment Arts (also known as computer animation). The ultimate goal is to work for Disney, Pixar, Nickelodeon, etc.
I graduated in June of 2008 with my Master's degree in clinical/counseling psychology. I currently am working as a marriage and family therapist intern. I am collecting hours toward getting licensed. I am almost halfway to the 3,000 I need. I also went back to school in September for a PPS in School Counseling. I want to be a professional student and collect an alphabet after my name.
Well, as things change and develop in our lives, I will put them up here so friends and family can stay informed...
Happy readin!
